sweet bannock

  • 1 cup flour
  • 5 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp magic baking powder
  • ~1/2 cup water

the water should be enough to make it the desired consistency, this can be thick and sticky for cooking on a stick or bit smoother (not quite like pancake batter) to cook in a pan. just add small amounts at a time and mix well.

start by mixing the dry ingredients, i use a fork in a bowl but you can sift them if you want.

if this is to be made away from home, here is where you should bag servings into zipper lock bags to take with you. then you just gradualy add water to the bag, mixing and neading as you go.

when you are ready to prepare the bread start up your fire or get your pan and stove ready. your stove should be set low, on a stove top a little below med-low is good. for a fire on a stick, preheat a green stick about half inch in diameter. point the other end or have a prop ready.

gradualy add in water whilst mixing the dough, continue until the desired consistency is reached. approximately 1/2 cup, maybe a little over.

to cook on a stove top or outdoor stove;

add a little butter or oil into your pan and heat to medium. flatten out the dough in the bottom of the pan. cook for 4-5 minutes each side.

to cook on a stick;

stretch the dough out into a long strip about 1 inch thick. then wrap it around the preheated stick starting from the tip. place within 9 or so inches from the fire. cook, turning often, until nicely browned.
